For All 8 & 10 Variants fitted with the Burman Douglas Steering Box Only
This is the output shaft that transfers the movement in the Worm and Nut to the Steering Arm.
There are two versions of this Steering Box, Early and Late and it is only possible to be certain which type you have by disassembling the unit and examining the shaft.
In both versions the drop shaft runs in a brass bush pressed into the body of the Box.
Early Boxes have a round shaft the same diameter along the whole length before the splines.
Late Boxes have a shaft that is reduced in diameter part way down its length to allow a bearing with a thicker walled bush to be fitted.
Until recently the Club was able to supply NOS Early Shafts and a Bronze Bush that would fit this shaft to both early and late boxes. Sadly the stock of these shafts has now been consumed.
However thanks to diligent work by our Chief Engineering Officer and our manufacturer in the USA we are again able to offer a solution to the wear in this part of these Steering Boxes except in the case of the most extreme abuse.
We are now able to offer the following new parts as shown
Oilite Bronze Bush and O Ring Seal specifically for Early Boxes priced at £38.40
Oilite Bronze Bush and Vitrion Oil Seal specifically for Late Boxes priced at £45.60
Prices include VAT where applicable, shipping will be added at Checkout.
Whilst we do not have a solution for wear in the worm and nut, this solution will remove the wear in the bottom bush.
