Your old distributor is probably worn and with wear there can be incorrect and inconsistent dwell angles and contact bounce.

As a result of investment in development , manufacture and testing by the Standard Motor Club, we are now able to offer this Brand New substitute Distributor for all 1930s and 1940's Standards *

There was one of three Lucas  distributors originally fitted - you must inspect yours and choose the one you need

  • Early thirties cars such as the Big 9, some 1934 9's and 10's used the DJH4A
  • Later cars of the 1930's used the DKH4A
  • Postwar Standards to 1948 all used DKYH4

Next,  there is a choice of a "Top Entry" or "Side Entry" Cap. The components of the kit are different for the one you choose:

A Lucar  connector 
A spacing washer
5 push-in HT  terminating clips for the ignition leads
5 rubber boots for the ignition leads

You need to reuse  the drive dog, that can easily be removed from your original distributor by driving out the pin. This is a DIY job.

* Please note that due to a size restriction in the Engine Bay of the Little 9, our Distributor will not fit this car

Please note:
In the Club's view, Side-entry Distributor Caps are inferior because they use a "spike" connector, Top-entry caps use the much more reliable "acorns". If your car currently uses a side entry cap, please consider the use of a top-entry cap. In addition, this solution comes with the correct HT connectors and rubber boots that you need to convert your HT leads to top-entry. There is a slight increase in price, for the extra components,  but in our view the solution is much preferable.

This Distributor has now been fitted to very many Standards. The members universally report easier starting, improved performance,,smoother running and better fuel consumption. This is because of the removal of the inevitable wear. in your 70 year old Distributor. Note that for simplicity, this is not an Electronic Conversion
